A Pemberley Medley includes five different short stories, each reworking a part of Pride and Prejudice in its own way. Though Elizabeth tries to shield Darcy from the coming scandal, Darcy takes matters into his own hands. I particularly liked the banter between Darcy and Mr. Needless the say, the wedding breakfast is a bit awkward, as both Lizzie and Darcy make assumptions about the other based solely on body language and try to fumble their way towards a reconciliation. I especially liked how Reynolds has Georgiana take an active role in this story, doing her best to find the woman who has made her brother unrecognizable.

A Pemberley Medley

The other three stories are equally enjoyable, some straying further from Austen than others. Quickly finished and easily read, A Pemberley Medley is the perfect Austen-inspired book for a rainy day. Apr 07, Janet rated it it was amazing Shelves: There are times that I simply do not have the time to read a novel. When a book is really good I have this tendency or obsession with the plot to read all day and to keep reading into the wee hours of the morning. That is not always the best thing, especially when I have deadlines to meet.

Therefore, an anthology of short stories is fantastic to have on hand. The five stories in this medley are all well written and left me feeling completely satisfied at the end. I have read several books by Ms. Reynolds and she does an excellent job of storytelling. She makes me feel and see what she is writing. These short stories are no different as they did not disappoint. She says in the preface that it is one of her favorites. The others are excellent, but this one was my favorite.

It is filled with romance and tension, conflict and resolution…a very beautiful love story between Darcy and Elizabeth. This was another very pleasing story. Bennet loves to give Darcy a difficult time and oh, he accomplishes it so well! Elizabeth tries to do what she thinks is best for those she loves and frustrated me to no end! All is well that ends well and this one surely did! After the death of Mr.

This story is lovely and shows the depth of emotion felt by Darcy and Elizabeth. It does have one intimate scene. Although my preference is for novels without explicit sex between Darcy and Elizabeth, I realize there are many readers that prefer it. I love to read about the passion, the romance and the sexual tension between them, but would rather leave the rest to my imagination.

That being said, this scene is tender and well written, not crudely done. That is one thing I have also discovered about the novels by Ms. Reynolds that are for mature audiences. Her novels are about the story not the sex. Rain, rain and more rain kept our favorite couple from having any time together in the last offering. They very much needed to be able to talk through their thoughts and previous misunderstandings.

Darcy had just been paid the visit from his aunt and now had hope, if only the rain would stop. His suspense was almost unbearable. This anthology of short stories was very rewarding and was a delight to read. Aug 10, Margaret Metz rated it did not like it.

I really love Pride and Prejudice so when I saw this book available for free I unfortunately leaped without looking too hard. Elizabeth and Darcy have such depth and integrity to them. Lizzie is the bulwark of her family. She isn't another pretty face -- she's strong, smart, stubborn, sassy. She is still a lady. She know I really love Pride and Prejudice so when I saw this book available for free I unfortunately leaped without looking too hard.

She knows which rules matter and which ones don't. Darcy is fiercely loyal to family and friends, quiet and contemplative, thoughtful and with a great deal of integrity. He wouldn't do anything to compromise those he cares about. He despises Wickham - so he would never behave like him. Yet this book has several escapades by "Elizabeth" and "Darcy" which can be more or less be boiled down to. How long can they go between kisses? And not pecks, mind you -- the kind that leave a lady without all the pins in her hair, pulling twigs out of it, having to re-dress herself, Darcy lying to her father to get some alone time with her.

Each successive story gets worse until the end ones have them sleeping together before marriage -- with lots of description. Darcy is such a weak minded man that he talks about being crazy if he can't kiss her. He goes into fits of bad temper when he can't be in her presence. He certainly doesn't live up to my ideals of Darcy. There's an Elizabeth that offers herself up as his mistress if he'll help her family financially -- so very Lizzie. And another Darcy "threatens" tongue in cheek to ruin Elizabeth's reputation out of frustration because she was dancing with other people - and as one option to make her his.

These aren't the characters I fell in love with. Then there is some annoying writing quirks. In an apparent attempt to emulate Austen, the author repeatedly uses the phrases smiled archly or an arch smile and fine eyes. This happened so often you could count on it every few pages. At first it seemed like a nice nod to Austen, then it was like a scratched CD.

The two mains sound more like Lydia and Wickam than Darcy and Elizabeth. Maybe the author should write about them instead. Feb 14, Ana T. Still, it is nice to revisit them and their world and think about the possibilities if the plot had taken a different turn. In this "what if" story Bingley and Jane are about to be married and Lizzie believes she lost Darcy when he unexpectedly appears for the wedding breakfast. This was my favourite story and the one where I thought that the characters more closely resembled the original. There are visits to Rosings and more than one lively conversation in the gardens between Lizzie and Darcy.

I loved the verbal sparring they engage in. This leads them to marry in haste as they feel that Wickham is a threat to their happiness. Maybe because this is a part of a longer work and here there wasn't time to expand but I wasn't totally convinced with this reasoning. I had some trouble recognising them in these characters that seemed to light and without substance. My conclusion is that this is a light and easy read but some of it felt a bit out of character, especially the last two stories, and I ended up thinking that I am more of a purist than I knew.

Very, very good short story. I enjoyed this one!! In this short story Elizabeth never saw Mr. Darcy at Pemberley and Lydia never went to Brighton. Darcy and Elizabeth don't see each other again until Jane and Bingley's wedding breakfast. Georgiana also plays a major hand in bringing them together again. Such Differing Reports - 3 stars. Enjoyable, but to me not as good as the first story. This is a variation where Darcy and Elizabeth have more conversations at Rosing Intermezzo - 4.

This is a variation where Darcy and Elizabeth have more conversations at Rosings. Darcy leaves for a few days and then returns to a much more agreeable Elizabeth. Elizabeth listens to Charlotte Collins advice a little more. The Rule of Reason - 3 stars. This variation is actually another way in which Ms.

What if Darcy and Elizabeth hadn't anticipated their marriage? What if the plan to deal with Wickham changed their marriage plans? The Most Natural Thing - 4 stars. I really enjoyed this version of Darcy! Elizabeth comes to Darcy when her circumstances are reduced and she's in desperate need of his assistance. Bennet has died, and the Collins' have taken over Longbourn hide spoiler ] A Succession of Rain - 4 stars.

Short and very sweet. Darcy's plans are thwarted by more than a weeks worth of rain. He now has to change his well-intended plans. Oct 19, Djg rated it liked it Shelves: Georgianna plays matchmaker with Elizabeth and Darcy at Jane and Bingley's wedding. I like both since T. Lizzy offers to become Darcy's mistress of course he refuses but saves the day anyway. Darcy and Bingley return to Longbourn and Mr. Collins kidnaps Elizabeth and sends her away when he discovers Darcy's interest in Elizabeth.

Lizzy makes her way to London and she and Darcy anticipate their vows.

This was a quick read and a nice way to re-imagine Their engagement. May 07, Sheila Majczan rated it really liked it. I, too, loved the first several and recognized the book from which the second one emerged and the book it became. I did not like the fourth story as well, in that it didn't sit well with me that LIzzy would offer herself to Mr. Darcy for the sake of her family - no mention is given to first exploring help from Mrs.
